How Our Sessions Will Be Conducted

I

meet with couples both together and separately. Typically each session lasts from 1 to 3 hours and we meet once a week. This schedule can be altered to conform to any particular set of parties' needs. Some prefer to meet more or less frequently, or for longer or shorter durations. I do not recommend meeting more than twice a week, although exceptions can be made depending upon the individual situation. I meet with each party separately upon request of either party, as well as joint sessions on a specified timetable. While these separate meetings are often helpful they can be waived if both parties so request.

Whenever appropriate I encourage my clients to invite older children to meet with us to discuss their adjustment and how it can best to enhanced. Allowing older children to feel a part of the process in the development of a co-parenting plan often serves to reduce the anxiety and displacement they experience when their parents separate.

We can do a lot to ease the transition for your children by acknowledging their feelings and respecting their needs.

Each Couples' individual needs and/or the complexity of the legal issues they seek to resolve will determine how many sessions will be required to complete the mediation process

Although there is a common framework upon which to organize and structure our sessions it is my practice to maintain complete flexibility as to their duration and scope. Within broad parameters I allow my clients to control the eventual length and duration of the mediation process.
